On Friday, 14 November 2025, a workshop on inequalities and divisions in urban space was held in Athens. Five experts—Hans Thor Andersen, Chris Hamnett, Jesús Leal, Thomas Maloutas, and Edmond Préteceille—drawing on 25 years of research on trends in socio-spatial segregation, discussed the evolving patterns observed in their respective cities: Athens, Copenhagen, London, Madrid, and Paris.
The discussion focused on issues of inequalities and divisions in urban space (Urban inequalities and segregation trends in different urban contexts: research and theory) and was organised within the framework of the research project “Social Segregation and Deprivation in Athens, 2011–2021,” conducted at the National Centre for Social Research (EKKE) and funded by HFRI.
