Roma Tre FUORI workshop at LaSTcity

On the 27th of February 2026, the LaSTcity had the honour of hosting the ‘FUORI’ workshop, the official study trip of the Master of Science in Architecture – Urban Planning at Roma Tre University. Organised by Professors Marco Ranzato, Francesco Careri, Federica Fava, in collaboration with researcher Valeria Volpe, ‘FUORI’ is a structured pedagogical activity comprising preparatory studies, travel, and on-site residency. Its primary objective is the direct exploration of urban and territorial geographies, with a particular focus on European and Mediterranean contexts. Now in its third edition, the program recently engaged first and second-year graduate students in an intensive analysis of the Athenian urban landscape.

The session held at the Institute constituted a pivotal component of the residency phase, providing students with an examination of the local context through a presentation by Stavros Spyrellis and Thomas Maloutas, titled ” Socioeconomic differentiations and vertical segregation at the micro-scale in Athens”. Employing a multidimensional mapping of the city, the lecture showed the complex historical-urban and social transformations that have shaped the Greek capital. This scholarly intervention served as the foundation for a fruitful interdisciplinary dialogue, aimed at contextualizing the students’ direct observations within a broader comparative framework encompassing the Southern Mediterranean region. The exchange was thus fully aligned with the scientific and didactic objectives of the ‘FUORI’ laboratory.
